Tuesday 18th November 2008* AGM & Thieves, Librarians & Civil Servants Accomplished popular local speaker, John Luckett returns to give this strangely titled talk about the secret world of Librarians - after the business of our meeting. Tuesday 16th December 2008* The Chippendale Singers Another return visit with a Seasonal Programme of Festive material for our Christmas Meeting with some audience participation. Wine, Juice and Mince Pies will compliment the evening. Tuesday 20th January 2009* Pudsey’s Road Roller - Majestic Derek Rayner, Vice Chairman & Steam Archivist of the Road Roller Association, comes to update us on the restoration of the Fowler Type ND No 15752 of 1921 – well remembered from Pudsey Park. Tuesday 10th February 2009* Pudsey’s Wars in the Air Phil Judkins, a Cranfield University military historian, turns our attention away from last season’s Naval talk to the Air, bringing out more local connections – perhaps to our surprise. Tuesday 17th March 2009* The People of Middleton Railway Tales of the families who owned, managed and worked the historic Middleton Railway and the coalpits it was built to serve. Tuesday 21st April 2009......REVISED details Clarke Hall Educational Museum, Wakefield. Well known to many West Riding and West Yorkshire parents and children from school visits. This is a late 17th century brick-built gentleman farmer’s house with contemporary and replica furnishings now used as a living history museum. Our visit includes a short talk, guided tour and refreshments. Cost £5.00 per person, payable to Jackie Depelle in advance. Departure 6.30 pm Pudsey Leisure Centre for return at approximately 9.30 pm. Tuesday 19th May 2009 Leeds Civic Hall, Calverley Street. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Leeds, Councillor Frank Robinson and Mrs Sheila Robinson will receive our pre-booked party in the Blue Room at 7.00 pm for a short tour of the Civic Hall. Meet at the Reception Desk, Portland Crescent entrance, at 6.50 pm. Book with Jackie Depelle before 1st April. Tuesday 9th June 2009 ......AMENDED DATE Old Town Ilkley and the Parish Church Our coach trip is in June this year for a guided walk round the old Ilkley Town before concluding at All Saints Parish Church. Depart Pudsey Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm for a 9.30 pm return. £5.00 per person payable in advance to Jackie Depelle. Tuesday 21st July 2009 A Walk Round Stanningley Guided historical walk on the edge of PCS’ patch with Ruth Strong. Meet at 7.00 pm by the entrance to Sunfield Doctors’ Surgery on Sunfield Place, Stanningley. Tuesday 18th August 2009 Leeds City Museum Meet at the Reception Desk in the new Museum, Millennium Square at 11.00 am for our summer event. Our visit will include a guided tour of the Leeds Gallery leaving plenty of time for personal browsing. Heritage Open Days - 10th to 13th September 2009 Watch our website and local press for special openings across the area. www.heritageopendays.org.uk Tuesday 15th September 2009* People and Views of Yorkshire Mark Saville filmed the History of Pudsey & District and other local areas before starting his Around and About Yorkshire DVD Magazine presented by Geoff Druett. See and hear some of the stories Mark has recorded. Tuesday 20th October 2009* Tracks in Time In 2007 PCS funded the conservation and digitisation of Calverley and Pudsey’s Tithe maps. This was the pilot for Yorkshire’s proposed Digital Tithe Project. Phase One, Leeds & District, should be live on the internet by the time Peter Lythe of West Yorkshire Archive Service visits us.
