– 2008 PROGRAMME Tuesday 16th October 2007* Matilda’s Home – The history of a Pudsey House through everyday objects and costume Join Jackie Reed in celebrating her home’s 100th birthday and discover Maltida, an intriguing former owner. Tuesday 20th November 2007* AGM & Yorkshire in Bloom Following our business meeting, Cllr Frank Robinson will present an illustrated talk on Yorkshire in Bloom. Perhaps Pudsey will be entering one day? Tuesday 18th December 2007* Our Christmas Evening with choral entertainment Come and join in with some seasonal music. Wine, juice and mince pies as always. Tuesday 15th January 2008* Do you remember the old cinema’s of the Leeds’ District? Jane Ellis will guide us through part of her collection of cinema photographs. Will you know or remember them all? Tuesday 19th February 2008* Lead Mining in the Grassington area Former Mining Surveyor, Brian Mason, will present an illustrated guide to an important industrial past. Tuesday 18th March 2008* Pudsey’s Navy "Pudsey? A Navy? Pudsey adopted the destroyer HMS Saladin in WW2, and Phil Judkins, a Cranfield University military historian, will tell us of her distinguished career from Dunkirk to D-Day. Tuesday 15th April 2008 Halifax Town Hall Our evening coach trip includes a guided tour of this magnificent West Riding building but what’s the connection with the Houses of Parliament? Join us to find out. Depart Pudsey Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm for a 9.30 pm return. Places £6.50 per person payable in advance please to Jackie Depelle. Tuesday 20th May 2008 RSPB Reserve Fairburn Ings This area of West Yorkshire has been a reserve for 50 years with a variety of habitats created out of a mining legacy. Our coach will leave Pudsey Leisure Centre at 10.30 am, returning at 3.30 pm giving us plenty of time for a short guided walk with full access. A additional longer route can be undertaken individually or spend time in the visitor centre. Drinks and snack machine on site or bring your own lunch. Places £8.00 per person payable in advance please to Jackie Depelle. Tuesday 17th June 2008 Calverley Woods A guided walk with LCC Ranger Glen Gorner on behalf of the Friends of Calverley Woods will include Tree and Woodland History. Appropriate footwear please. Meet at 7.00 pm by Calverley Parish Church. Tuesday 15th July 2008 Meanwood Valley Trail – Part II By popular demand Elaine Hill, LCC Senior Ranger, will take us on the second part of this local history and wildlife tour. Walking boots preferable. Meet at 7.00 pm in the car park at the Junction of King Lane and The Avenue, Leeds 17. Tuesday 19th August 2008 Golden Acre Park, Bramhope Join us at 6.30 pm by the café for an evening guided tour of this popular leisure area. Parks and Countryside Ranger, Dean Lockwood will take us through it’s history, explain the collections and guide us round the display gardens. £1.50 per person will be payable on the evening. Tuesday 16th September 2008* All About Beekeeping Experienced and knowledgeable beekeeper, Bill Crann will demonstrate and explain all the skills needed to look after these small but vital members of our gardens. Perhaps there will be something to taste? Tuesday 21st October 2008* The Vanished (and some surviving) Pudsey Chapels Once the main spring of Pudsey’s Industrial, Musical and Sporting heritage come and join us for Ruth Strong’s local history talk. * Meeting in Greenside School, Chapeltown, Pudsey. 7.30 pm Bookstall and Refreshments.
