The Arms of the Borough of Pudsey

in the West Riding of Yorkshire

The Arms were granted in 1901

please note:- the former Borough of Pudsey became part of Leeds in 1974,
and the Arms now hang in Leeds Civic Hall.

Blazon

Silver, on a chevron Vert, three gold spur-Rowels,
in chief two pairs of crossed shuttles and in base,
a woolpack proper: a border engrailed Gules,
charged with eight white Roses.

Interpretation

The chevron and spur-Rowels

are from the arms of the family of Pudsey.


The woolpack and shuttle

denote the chief local industry (at that time!)


The border of White Roses

are of course for the County of Yorkshire


The Motto

"Be just and fear not"
